Dance class provides a great physical outlet for kids of all ages, but it also provides life training.
Dancers are often high achievers in all areas of their lives because of the discipline,
focus, work ethic, and determination they hone in their training.
Dance is a wonderful creative outlet for students as it provides technique training
with the exploration of expression through movement.

FIRST STEPS & LITTLE STEPS
These classes welcome little dancers! Dancers will experience the love of dance as they learn skills for balance, musicality, movement, following directions, and other foundational skills helpful for all young dancers!
FIRST STEPS: Ages 2 - 3 - 4
Dance Class:
Tuesday 9:15 - 9:45 AM
Dancers will learn both the foundational basics and enjoy upbeat music and a variety of high-energy movements.
Dance Class:
Saturday 9:00 - 9:30 AM
Dancers will learn both the foundational basics and enjoy upbeat music and a variety of high-energy movements.
Both classes are similar in nature, but will have different teachers. Dancers are welcome to take both classes!
LITTLE STEPS: Ages 3 - 4 - 5
Jazz:
Wednesday 4:30 - 5:00 PM
Dancers will focus on Jazz steps and foundational technique
Hip Hop:
Friday 4:30 - 5:00 PM
Dancers will enjoy high-energy movements and athleticism
Jazz & Funk
Saturday 9:45 - 10:15 AM
Dancers will enjoy elements of both Jazz and Funk along with foundational technique training.
Dress Code for First Steps & Little Steps
- Tights & leotard (shorts, tutus, and skirts allowed)
- Leggings & fitted tank tops
- Hair pulled back (ex: pony tail, bun, braid)
- Only essential jewelry (that cannot be removed)
- Jazz shoes, pirouettes, or ballet shoes
- Athletic shoes for hip hop class only
Junior Dance Team & Middle School Dance Team
Dance Team classes are a step up from our recreation classes. Dancers participating on Dance Teams must demonstrate a desire to work hard and improve. Attendance is essential as well as a positive team-first attitude. Dancers are expected to practice at home in preparation for performances and competitions.
Dress Code for Dance Team Classes:
- Tights & leotard (shorts & skirts allowed)
- Leggings & fitted tank tops
- Hair pulled back (ex: pony tail, bun, braid)
- Only essential jewelry (that cannot be removed)
- Jazz shoes, pirouettes, or ballet shoes
JAZZ
In each class, dancers will develop their knowledge of jazz techniques while refining their flexibility and control. Beginning classes guide students through the basics, which are followed by intermediate and advanced dance levels where students will incorporate technical skills like kicks, leaps, and turns.
Dress Code for Jazz Classes:
- Tights & leotard (shorts & skirts allowed)
- Leggings & fitted tank tops
- Hair pulled back (ex: pony tail, bun, braid)
- Only essential jewelry (that cannot be removed)
- Jazz shoes, pirouettes, or ballet shoes
HIP HOP
Hip hop dancing is a modern staple of self-expression. Hip Hop dance classes allow students to practice this high-energy, enjoyable form of movement. We strive to foster vibrant, nurturing class environments and help students express themselves and freely explore their passion for dance.
Dress Code for Hip Hop Classes:
- Athletic clothing that can move easily
- Modest attire (no crop tops, short shorts, low tops, etc.)
- Hair pulled back
- Only essential jewelry (that cannot be removed)
- Athletic shoes
CONTEMPORARY
Contemporary dance class offers some of the same structure of ballet while combining the more improvisational feel of modern dance. Many dancers take contemporary dance classes as an addition to their training after having taken a few years of ballet or jazz. This style of dance allows for self-expression of each performer and the opportunity to move in a way that offers a bit more freedom. If your child has been itching to break the mold, enroll them in a class where they can experience floor work, changes in rhythm and speed, and more organic movements.
Dress Code for Contemporary Classes:
- Tights & leotard (shorts & skirts allowed)
- Leggings & fitted tank tops
- Hair pulled back
- Only essential jewelry (that cannot be removed)
- Jazz shoes, pirouettes, or ballet shoes
POM
In each class, dancers will learn and develop proper motion placement and path of travel while practicing Pom execution and timing. Beginning classes guide students through the basics, which are followed by intermediate and advanced dance levels where students will incorporate technical skills like kicks, leaps, and turns.
Dress Code for Pom Classes:
- Tights & leotard (shorts & skirts allowed)
- Leggings & fitted tank tops
- Hair pulled back (ex: pony tail, bun, braid)
- Only essential jewelry (that cannot be removed)
- Jazz shoes, pirouettes, or ballet shoes
- Poms (specific color and style purchased as a class each season)

TECHNIQUE
Aspiring dancers in Lane County can take technique dance lessons at Next Step Dance and learn the fundamentals of ballet with emphasis on jazz technique training. We offer a safe, nurturing environment for all our students, so they can focus on dance.
A foundation in technique helps your child learn coordination, strength, control, and flexibility as they gain poise and confidence. If your child loves dancing around the house, maybe it’s time to see if they would like to dance with us!
Next Step Dance focuses on both foundational ballet training and skill acquisition. Dancers will learn ballet basics and technical skills to practice and improve kicks, leaps, turns and combination skills. Both stationary training exercises and progressive skills will be covered according to level.

- Tights & leotard (shorts & skirts allowed)
- Leggings & leotard
- Hair pulled back
- Only essential jewelry (that cannot be removed)
- Jazz shoes, pirouettes, or ballet shoes

JUMP & ACRO
This conditioning and training class will teach dancers proper execution and technique for jumps. We begin with placement and preparation from the ground up! Basic acrobatic skills are also instructed from the beginning level focusing on skills traditionally used by dancers.
Dress Code for Jump & Acro Classes:
- Leotard or tight fitted tank top tucked in
- Leggings or shorts
- Hair pulled back
- No jewelry
- Athletic shoes



TURNS
This conditioning and training class will teach dancers proper execution and technique for turns. We begin with placement and preparation from the ground up! Foundational pirouettes and turns in 2nd are the focus of these classes.
Dress Code for Turns Classes:
- Leotard or tight fitted tank top tucked in
- Leggings or shorts
- Hair pulled back
- No jewelry
- Dance shoes
FLEXIBILITY & KICK
This conditioning and training class will teach dancers proper execution and technique for kicks. Classes will focus on improving flexibility and then learn how to correctly use their flexibility while learning a variety of flexibility skills.
Dress Code for Flex & Kick Classes:
- Leotard or tight fitted tank top tucked in
- Leggings or shorts
- Hair pulled back
- No jewelry
- Dance shoes
FUNK
In each class, dancers will learn and develop proper motion placement and path of travel while practicing execution and timing. Dancers will enjoy high-energy atheltic-styled movements to up-beat music!
Dress Code for Funk Classes:
- Leggings & fitted tank tops/t-shirts
- Hair pulled back (ex: pony tail, bun, braid)
- Only essential jewelry (that cannot be removed)
